TOY NEWS FOR 8/5/2013 - KAIYODO - REVOLTECH - ASSEMBLE BORG INFINITY NEXUS

Kaiyodo's Assemble Borg isn't one of the more well-known toy lines, especially here in the US, but that doesn't mean that it's not one hell of a cool and inventive action figure series.

Based on Kaiyodo's Revoltech line, and utilizing their "revolver" joint system, Assemble Borg is the brainchild of manga writer/artist Yasuhiro Nightow, creator of Trigun and Gungrave and grew out of his love for Takara's Microman (Micronauts here in the US) line as a child.

There have been many figures in the series over the past few years, but their limited production runs have skewed them towards the expensive side of things.

I picked up the first series of figures from Kaiyodo and Nightow himself at SDCC a few years back. I did like the design, but being a fan of Nightow's and Trigun, I just had to pick up the set.

The first run of figures were... kind of plain. They just weren't on par with Takara's more recent Microforce figure line-- which I absolutely loved-- and which was the updated version of what inspired this line. Ultimately, I didn't continue collecting subsequent figures. The price, along with the rarity and difficulty in obtaining them, also contributed to my dissolution for Assemble Borg.

Fast forward last month's SDCC where I see on display at Diamond Distribution's booth a very cool display of Assemble Borg figures. But, as it turns out, this isn't a series of figures but rather one figure with dozens of display options.

So, not only has Kaiyodo and Nightow stepped up their game with the Assemble Borg line, but Diamond is going to be bringing it to the US for a reasonable price!

I'll definitely be picking up a few of these, just to see what I can create! As you can see from the show display pictures, you get a base body-- also with several options-- along with ton of other parts/accessories to allow you to create almost any kind of figure you can imagine. The pictures below show off just a few possibilities of what can be made from this single figure set.
