TOY NEWS FOR 2/19/2016 - TOY FAIR 2016 - DC COLLECTIBLES - BATMAN ANIMATED

I don't think any other US company could do the kind of justice to this line the way that DC Collectibles does.

It's clear that they love this cartoon as much as the fans and collectors do. The Batman Animated Series is still, to this day, one of the most quality TV cartoon series of all time. With designs by the brilliant Bruce Timm and stories by the equally brilliant Paul Dini, the duo took what Tim Burton did with the Batman films and Frank Miller did with the comic series "Dark Knight Returns" and brought to TV a Batman that was dark and gritty with twisted villains and serious character development.

I loved the Kenner toys in my youth, and while they were pretty damn close to what we saw in the cartoon series, they pale in comparison to what DC Collectibles is bringing us now.

Unlike Hasbro and Mattel, DC Collectibles is unrestrained by the demands of big box stores (price ranges, figures size, packaging and so on) and are able to charge what they need to in order to bring us all-new, unique molds for every character with size and complexity. Want a nice, bulky Clayface with a extra heads and hands? Well, DC Collectibles can bring you exactly that. And the good news is that they are!

I could easily buy a new figure from this line every week (and sometimes that happens with they're coming out that fast), but they do come in "waves". The next wave is almost upon us, with Commissioner Gordon, The Demon, Ra's Al Ghul and Zatanna coming next month. We'll be getting a big break over the summer and then in September we'll start to see things gear up again with a ton of new figures and products.

Let's take a look at what's coming our way...

CLAYFACE (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $39.99

FIREBUG (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

ANTI-FIRE SUIT BATMAN (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

HARVEY BULLOCK (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

HARLEY QUINN (BATMAN NEW ADVENTURES)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

SCARFACE (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

 TALIA AL GHUL (BATMAN ANIMATED)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

JOKER (BATMAN NEW ADVENTURES)
Release Date: Sept - $27.99

"GIRLS NIGHT OUT" SET (POISON IVY, LIVEWIRE, SUPERGIRL, BATGIRL & HARLEY QUINN)
Release Date: Sept - $79.99

DC Collectibles calls the "Girls Night Out" set their "hint" at what's to come. And what's coming is a Superman Animated Series line!

I can only images that, with the success of this animated line of figures, that Justice League and Justice League Unlimited will be coming our way, too. Sure, it will take another year or two before we see figures from that series (probably) but the fact that this line is going to live on years into the future is a wonderful thing!

Coming towards the end of the year will be a couple of great sets.

The first one is from The New Batman Adventures "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode and features the Dark Knight version of Batman, Carrie Kelly as Robin and the Mutant Leader. It would be pretty cool if we got some of the other versions of Batman from that episode, like the Dick Sprang version of Batman and Joker!

"TALES OF THE DARK KNIGHT" (BATMAN, ROBIN & MUTANT LEADER)

The other set will make a lot of people happy-- it's the Terry McGinnis Batman, Ace (the dog) and old Bruce Wayne from Batman Beyond!

"BATMAN BEYOND" (BATMAN, ACE & BRUCE WAYNE)

The final product slated for this year (or early next year) is the Batwing! This thing is massive and will have LED lights and hold two characters back to back.

BATWING

It's a great time to be a Batman Animated fan! All this great new product is making me want to go watch the cartoon again!
